Feeling creepy?

Are you ready for Halloween? Got that awesome costume? We’re having a few events you might want to check out. In Lawrencetown, we are hosting a “Creepy Lock In” from 8:30-11:30 PM on Friday, October 30. Food, candy, costume prizes, and games — what are you waiting for? In Berwick, on October 30, you can stop by the Teen Lounge from 7-9 PM for some Halloween fun. In Kentville, the Halloween version of Teen Lounge (October 30, 6-8 PM) will featurecreepy lounge325 Wii, games, snacks, and costume prizes. No excuses– there’s plenty of creepy things for you to do @the library!

The 2009 Summer Reading Club, Get a Clue, is up and running! Why would you want join? Read on…

When you sign up, you can enter for our Grand Prize draw, which is a Flip Digital Video Camera. Think how much fun it would be to be making videos with this sleek little gadget. It plugs right into a USB port and you can edit your video and then post to YouTube to share with your friends (and the world). But that’s not all….

Once you’ve read for 25 hours, we’ll give you a free (yes, free) FastPass to Upper Clements Park. A free day at the park– take your friends and have a blast! FastPasses are available beginning August 1. And you can enter for the Grand Prize again!geta clue325
Still, that’s not all…

Every time you read 5 hours, you get to enter a ballot for our awesome prize draws. This year our prizes include a Twilighters package (all 4 books in a fancy case, and a copy of the DVD). There’s Smart Spies– which has some secret agent supplies, the first season of the original “Get Smart” TV show, the new Get Smart movie, and some popcorn. Perhaps you’d like to win the “Mystery Date” package– a very girly gift containing all sorts of goodies for a night on the town (or a day at the park). And you can’t forget our ever-popular “Too Cool for School” package, which is filled with all those school supplies that your Mom doesn’t think you need (such as Sharpies, fancy paper clips, locker gear, funky pens, and more!). So what are you waiting for? You can read anything– you can even count reading aloud to someone — little kids, your friends, your Grandma. And we let you count audio books (cuz that’s reading, too), manga, magazines– you get the idea. Just read! Now get over to your local library and sign up!

Guitar Hero Rock-Out!

So, you think you can play? Now is your chance to show your Guitar Hero stuff at the library! If you’ve spent hours honing your GH skills, why not enter our contest– you could win an electric guitar & amp (plus a free guitar lesson), or maybe some free CDs! So, here’s the scoop:

K-Rock is co-sponsoring our first ever Guitar Hero Rock Out! We will hold qualifying rounds at 4 branches– Berwick, Bridgetown, Kentville, and Windsor. 4 people from each branch will advance to the finals, which will be held August 7 at the Kentville Lions Hall. So, keep practising, and enter– you could be the winner!

Our sponsors are K-Rock– join the K-Rock staff at each event– they’ll be there to watch you rock out; Long & McQuade donated the electric guitar package; local musician Caleb Miles will give the winner a free guitar lesson; and CD Plus is donating gift cards.

Happy Teen Read Week !!

Teen Read Week is October 12-18 and this year the theme is BOOKS WITH BITE.  We’ll be celebrating all week with programs and a Book Review Contest. To enter the contest, you need to sign up on the Teen SRC site and review a book — the more books you review, the better your chances at winning one of six great “Books with Bite” titles.  If you are a Twilight series fan, you should come to our Twilight Party at the Kentville Library on October 17. Dress in your favourite vampire garb because we’ll be giving prizes for the best costumes.  In Windsor, you can come make Cute Stuff to decorate your jeans, backpacks or whatever! And don’t miss Anime Nights in Port Williams and Lawrencetown. Stop by one of our libraries for a cool bookmark and grab a pair of Books with Bite fangs! We’ve got lots in store, and plenty of books to delight, so get yourself to the library! For details on programs, click here.

Breaking Dawn give-away!

We are giving away a copy of the newest “Twilight” book, Breaking Dawn. All you have to do is live in the Annapolis Valley, be ages 12-19, have a library card, and enter our contest! Pretty easy, eh? You know you want to read it, to find out if Bella turns, and all the other great mysteries you’ve waited for! So click on the image above to enter. One entry per person, please! hang out and read

Plans for the annual Teen SRP (aka Summer Reading Program) are pretty much finalized. This year, our grand prize will be an iPod Nano, 4GB. All you have to do to enter is sign up and read. When you’ve read for 5 hours, you can enter to win some great prizes, such as gaming supplies, great colours of duct tape, cool school supplies, and more. When you’ve read for 25 hours, you are eligible to recieve a FastPass for Upper Clements Park. What, you might ask, is the catch? Well, all we ask is that you read. How hard is that? And you don’t even have to actually read– we’ll let you listen to books, too. Sounds pretty cool, right? So beginning June 23, get yourself to your local library or bookmobile stop, and start reading for a chance at some great stuff! We’ll have more details on the library website soon, so don’t forget to check back!
