So, who HASN’T seen New Moon? After the rush of the new movie wears off, you are going to want more werewolf. Well, luckily, there’s a new book that is just right for you. It is called SHIVER, by Maggie Stiefvater, and it is a story of girl-meets-wolf and falls in love. Grace was bitten by wolves when she was younger, and ever since, she’s been fascinated by the wolves that live in the woods behind her house. One wolf, in particular, the wolf with the intense yellow eyes. T
hen one day, a naked boy turns up on her back step, and he’s been shot — and Grace recognizes those eyes….. Read it to find out what happens!
And then there is FIRE, by Kristen Cashore. No werewolves, but there are monsters, and romance, and adventure. I thought it was a sequel to GRACELING, but it is more a companion book — set in the same world, but different characters. You’ll meet Fire, the human monster who can control men’s minds (well, women too, but men are much more susceptible to her fiery red hair). Fire has been asked by the King (who has fallen madly in love with her) to pry into the minds of the spies he’s captured, in order to help win the war. She doesn’t want to do it, but she also doen’t like the idea of the war being won by the bad guys. Find out who Fire has fallen in love with, and if they ever get together…..
